The Bumpers

Recording!

December 20th, 2011

The world needs more Bumpers recordings, so we are doing our best to be good global citizens. Jeff Lewis is at the controls (and behind the lens). Go check out some more pics over on Jeff’s Tumblr, and watch out for updates.

This year, we covered “Super Sunny Christmas” by Hawthorne’s immortal punk progenitors Redd Kross and we want to share the fruits of our labors with you as a special Xmas treat. Grab a free download now and turn it up!

Wow! It’s already time for the return of the Rock & Roll Yuletide Jubilee! The 2011 edition reunites us with our good buds The Young Dudes, as well as R&RYJ rookies California Lions and Owens Valley Dynamite. It is going to be an awesome night of rock with Christmas covers galore and the traditionally heavy pours of your favorite Prospector bartenders.

Thursday, December 15 at the Prospector in Long Beach. Starts 9:30-ish, $5 at the door.

Sadly, this will be our last show for a while, as Bumpers drummer/force of nature Thad Paulson will be skipping town shortly after the show. So come on out and send him off right!

This show is gonna be a rockin’ good time! Also playing are our friends Downtown/Union and Jupilar. We’re planning on trying out a bunch of new songs (all of which are totally rad) so come be the first to hear ‘em, and then 5 years from now you’ll be able to brag about how cool you were that you were at that one show where The Bumpers played that one song before they totally hit it big!! Sounds pretty cool right?!! See ya there, folks! Max Steiners in Long Beach, no cover charge, 21+, 9:00 pm.

We’re a late addition to a great show at the Prospector in Long Beach this Thursday, June 16 featuring The Soft Hands and Sleep Lady (San Diego). It’s been a while since the Soft Hands have rocked, so you don’t wanna miss this one (nice write-up on them in the OC Weekly here).

RSVP on the Soft Hands’ Event Page

9:00 PM, $3, 21+

Our buddies Jupilar are curating this month’s Monday night residency at Avalon Bar in Costa Mesa, and we’ve been graciously invited to join the fun on Monday, June 20. Doors are at 9:00 pm, and also on the bill is Darison.

They have lots of great shows lined up. Check out the Facebook event page here and come on out for the rock!

Sort of! Our plugs theme song, “We Want the Plugs,” was featured on this week’s episode of Scott Aukerman’s always-hilarious Comedy Death-Ray Radio (soon to be renamed “Comedy Bang Bang”).

We are proud and stoked beyond belief to have been just a small part of this epic anniversary episode, which featured amazing guests like Paul F. Tomkpins, Reggie Watts, Andy Daly, Paul Scheer, Tig Notaro, Nick Kroll and James Adomian, as well as one totally psychedelic meltdown of an ending.

We Want the Plugs

The Bumpers will be playing on a fun bill Friday, May 6 at Mr. T’s Bowl in Highland Park with the Insect Surfers, Ghosts of Searchlight and the Muertones. Doors are at 9pm, and we’re on first, so be sure to arrive early and ready to rock!

Alert! We’re going to be rocking the Prospector in Long Beach this Thursday, March 24 with the Paperplanes and Watch It Sparkle (Seattle, WA). Show starts at 9:30, $5 at the door. We’re pumped to get back onstage and play some new songs that we’ve been feverishly crafting in Thad’s garage. Rumor has it that this may be the Paperplanes’ last show for a while, too, so don’t snooze!

We now have a profile up on Soundcloud! We’re going to try to add new stuff there fairly regularly, so be sure to follow us to get the goods.

In fact, there are a couple of brand new acoustic demos posted right now. Check ‘em out!
